Buddhist Pathways
Follow a meaningful route through Sarnath, Bodh Gaya, Rajgir and Nalanda.
Suggested itinerary
Day 1 — Varanasi arrival
Meet your driver on arrival at the airport or station and transfer to your hotel. After check-in, take a gentle orientation walk by the Ganga if your schedule allows. Your guide can introduce the connections between Varanasi and nearby Sarnath before an overnight stay.
Day 2 — Sarnath
Drive to Sarnath, where the Buddha delivered his first teaching after enlightenment. Walk through the Dhamek Stupa and archaeological precinct with a guide, taking time to understand the site’s history. Visit the museum if open and explore nearby temples or monasteries before returning to Varanasi.
Day 3 — Bodh Gaya
Travel by private vehicle to Bodh Gaya, allowing for a full road journey and rest stops. After check-in, visit the Mahabodhi Temple complex and the area around the Bodhi Tree, subject to local access. Spend time in quiet reflection and explore nearby international monasteries if the schedule allows.
Day 4 — Rajgir & Nalanda
Leave Bodh Gaya for a full-day visit to Rajgir and Nalanda with your guide. In Rajgir, explore selected sites associated with the Buddha, according to access and available time. Continue to the ruins of Nalanda’s ancient learning centre, then return for an overnight stay or arrange the next city by preference.
Day 5 — Departure
Have breakfast and check out at a time suited to your onward connection. Depending on the departure city and available hours, fit in a final monastery visit or time for reflection. Transfer privately to the agreed airport or railway station; the precise route is confirmed with your travel details.
